For 8 days and 7 nights we traveled through in total of 4 provinces, tens of small cities and towns, with a total distance of 5750km.
Last week my family and another family left Mississauga for a trip to the Atlantic region. The trip was a total success as everyone enjoyed themselves and became more knowledgeable at the same time.
We were planning to leave on Saturday at 8am but for obvious reasons we had to delay the starting time till 12:30pm since my mother had to do her citizenship test. So we packet our stuff on to a van which was rented and we were on our way. This very first day was both exciting and crucial because we had to drive for 8 hours to get to our first stop at an online ordered motel that is located in Quebec. I saw many great sceneries as we gradually left Ontario. We got to Quebec City at approximately 10pm but due to lack of experience we couldn’t find the motel. After we called and asked for their location. We had to drive on the mountain road, it was heart treating there were no road light, and it was so dark that I couldn’t even see my hands in front of my face!!! The only thing that is visible was the headlight of the van. At about 12:10am we finally found the motel.
The next day we got up at 9:00am and left after breakfast. We visited a yellow waterfall as well as a unique old church. The church was made of huge bright white solid stones, which made it look like a castle; it also has a golden statue on top of the roof. For the rest of the day we drove to Fredericton, which was the stop for that day. Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick located in the in the Atlantic region, with a small population since it is such a small town, it is very different from what I had imagined; I thought it is a big city because it’s the capital of the province. We arrived at the motel late at night in Lakeview Inn.
The third day was kind of disappointing because it rained all day as we drove to PEI. PEI is an island but also a province. The people there mostly rely on farming for living. Anyways since it was raining so we didn’t get a chance to go on the famous white beach, but we did went to the birthplace of Canada a museum. The only thing that brightened up the day was a mysterious place we visited, it is called Magnetic hill, we didn’t really know what it meant till we experienced it ourselves. It’s that you drive down the hill on the right lane and move the car to left lane then set the car to neutral then the car would move up the hill by itself!!!!!!!! We thought there are magnet under the ground, so we asked the person who worked there but she said nicely, “ there are nothing under ground it’s all natural. I then realized that how little we actually know about the earth. We were also hopping to have a lobster lunch so we ate at a Chinese restaurant but we got raped off it was very expensive yet with little amount of dish we ordered a dish with lobster, shrimp etc, but all there was are two lobster tails and one small shrimp, and it cost us $45!!!!! Late that afternoon we went on a ferry and got to new Glasgow and stayed at Country Inn.
During the next few days the most interesting place we visited are the national park at NB, Peggy’s cove, reversing falls, Highest tides in the world, and the little French town in Showvaningon.
The national park is one of the biggest reserved wild parks in the world almost as big as Algonquin. That day was raining and foggy and we had to drive on the one lane mountain road there are suppose to be whales in the sea just below the mountain but unfortunately we didn’t see it since the weather was so bad. Peggy’s cove is my favorite out of all the places we visited. It’s a sour line at the ocean the entire place was under the Atlantic Ocean millions of years ago and now the water decreased significantly and hundreds of huge rocks appeared in various shapes mostly round. That day was very foggy and I saw mountains of waves by standing on a huge rock. The reversing fall was very disappointing rather than fun because it’s name made it seems fun but it’s not, not at all. It was different from everyone’s thought we thought the water would go up ward but instead all it is, is that the water flow down from the hill and the wril turn the water around to where they came from. The highest tides in the world wasn’t that much fun for me either. All we saw was the ocean at sea level, since we arrived late so we didn’t get a chance to see the ocean rise and fall. I learned on the board about the reason why the tides rises and fall it’s because of the moon and sun’s gravity, the are pulling the water up ward as the earth is pulling it down ward.
The last night of the trip we staied at a small French town, and the first thing I felt is different from what I usually feel in Ontario, I felt peaceful as everyone in the little town sang together, dance together, talk together. And in Ontario I usually feel very competitive. I can say on that night we are the only Chinese in town because when we were walking on the streets everyone looked at us like they never saw Chinese before. Everyone in the town is so nice despite the language differences. For example the last and final day when we had trouble of getting on to the highway a small truck past by and asked us if we needed any help and so we asked him about the directions but after he told us we still didn’t know where to go because we didn’t know any streets names or buildings in the town so it’s really hard to understand what he was talking about. Then he said,” don’t worry just follow me.” And he led us all the way up the expressway. On this final day I didn’t feel homesick at all, I actually wanted to stay longer, as we were all in deep thoughts in the van I suddenly realized how advanced Ontario is compare to the other provinces, for instance any drive way, roads, and highways in Ontario has road lights lined up one by one at the side, but in the Atlantic provinces most of the highways, and roads doesn’t has any at all. With thoughts like this come and go after one another, and, as the hours past by we arrived at Scarbourh and had buffet for dinner. I will miss these wonderful 8 days and the times we spend together, I will also miss the long driving, the laughter, the talk, and the teamwork of finding places. These memories will always be locked tiredly inside a part of my heart.
Halifax is a pretty big city and I thought it’s china town would be pretty big too but to my surprise there are only 3 or 4 Chinese stores and with a Chinese population of only 3000.
Incredible site Magnificent view.
